RELIGIOUS SCHOOL

Temple Sinai’s religious school is guided by the values and ideals of Reform Judaism and undoubtedly committed to helping your child/children connect and identify with their Jewish heritage.

We believe experiencing and living our faith is the best way to learn about Judaism. We encourage independent thinking while enhancing a positive sense of Jewish identity because our approach to learning centers around a relaxed atmosphere which respects the various needs of families. Under the leadership of our religious school principal our faculty is ready and eager to teach and learn with your child/children. We understand your child/children is/are simultaneously involved in many activities, school, and their various interests. We are especially sensitive to your needs as we are aware of those commitments and that many of our parents work.

We encourage families to enroll their child/children in religious school by 3rd grade to help enrich their growing curiosity about religion.

During the year, our religious school classes participates in:
– Sukkah decorating
– Simchat Torah celebration and Consecration
– Purim Speil, making mishloach manot baskets and fun
– Family Chanukiot/Menorah lighting
– Monthly Shabbat dinners
– Co-leading Shabbat Worship
And more…

Class lead by Rabbi Poticha in the sanctuary.

The family of every child must be members of Temple Sinai. Every child must be registered as a student. Students new to our religious school will be placed in the grade appropriate for their level of knowledge. Usually, this grade is concurrent with their secular school grade.

The first Friday of the month is our Family Shabbat Worship Service. Each month a different grade co-leads services with the Rabbi. A fun and lively play replaces a sermon, in which the students participate. All grades are encouraged to attend this service which is at 7:30pm.

Your child/children will:
– Make friends
– Learn about our customs, traditions and heritage through classroom participation, art and music
– Will learn Hebrew to (co)lead Shabbat worship and to be called to the
Torah as a bar/bat mitzvah
– Experience the riches of the Jewish year as a community
– Celebrate holidays
– Explore Judaism and Torah as age-appropriate levels
– Strengthen their Jewish identity and self-image

Our religious school is augmented by the help and energies of our Parent’s Committee. Parents who volunteer to be on this committee help our religious school function in many ways.
